Xyleme Voices features some really cool podcasts about new learning trends. Delivered by some well known experts in the field, these podcasts discuss key issues affecting the evolution of training.
I really liked the one by Dr. Ruth Clark about the use of visuals in eLearning. I create a lot of CBTs (computer based training) for my company and we're trying hard to step away from glorified PowerPoints to real elearning using the proper mix of text, visuals and audio.

I took a moment to listen to Ruth Clark's podcast and found it to be super interesting. Like the use of effective visuals increased learning by 90%. Unfortanately one study found that in text books 80% of the visuals were ineffective. yikes! I have developed quite a bit of elearning using visuals and I'm sure I have slapped in a picture for the sake of entertaining rather than teaching. I"ll certainly be aware of what I'm doing with visuals in the future.
I listened to the podcast interview of Dr. Ann Kwinn. I guess in the back of my mind I thought about the pros and cons of using a virtual classroom. I'm giving my first webex webinar on Wednesday. This podcast helped me to remember what options I have and why I will do certain activities and not others.
